This Maryland project started with a simple idea: create a screen porch connected to a hot tub or swim spa. Early in the planning process, we explored several options and discussed how the space would truly be used day to day.
After reviewing the possibilities, the homeowners decided a traditional hot tub was the better fit for their lifestyle—and would provide far more everyday enjoyment. From there, the focus shifted to creating a backyard that felt connected, functional, and comfortable throughout much more of the year.

The patio, BBQ area, hot tub, and new screen porch were all designed to flow naturally together and connect seamlessly back to the home. Instead of separate outdoor spaces, the result is one cohesive outdoor living environment designed for relaxing, entertaining, and spending time with family and friends.
To help extend the season beyond summer, we incorporated several features to make the porch comfortable in both early spring and late fall, including: A gas fireplace for warmth and ambiance, an infrared heater above the dining area, and vinyl shutter windows that fully enclose the porch.
When closed, the windows help block breezes and retain heat, transforming the porch into a true three-season room. They also make maintenance much easier during heavy pollen season and throughout the winter months by helping keep furniture and cushions protected and clean.

One of my favorite parts of this project was seeing the original concept sketches evolve into a finished space that feels like a natural extension of the home. Thoughtful planning early in the process made all the difference.
