Behind the Design: A New Addition – with David Vogt at Case

An Addition Designed to Feel Like It’s Always Been There

When clients come to me looking to add space to their home, the goal is never just “more square footage.” It’s about creating a home that lives better — while honoring the character and charm that made them fall in love with it in the first place.

In this Washington, DC project, the homeowners wanted to expand their traditional home without losing its architectural integrity. We designed a large two-story addition that seamlessly blends old and new, maintaining the home’s classic feel while dramatically improving how it functions for their family.

The addition included a new primary suite, an additional bedroom, a dedicated home office, and a larger kitchen and family room designed for everyday living and gathering. We also created a spacious screen porch and patio area, extending the living space outdoors and giving the family more room to relax and entertain.

Projects like this are a reminder that thoughtful planning makes all the difference. When an addition is designed carefully, it doesn’t feel “added on” — it feels like it was always meant to be there.

If you’re considering expanding your home, I’d be happy to talk through your goals and explore what’s possible.

Before & After – More Space, Same Character

From there, I put together a few sketch options to help the homeowners visualize different design directions. These early concepts are a great way to explore possibilities, compare styles, and ensure we’re aligned on the overall look and feel before moving into detailed plans.

A seamless addition and a beautiful new backyard oasis!

The new kitchen, family room, and primary bath have reimagined this home. A carefully designed addition that enhances space, comfort, and everyday living.
