A homeowner once told me, “With the home being more traditional, I guess we need to make our new kitchen look like the rest of the home.” This is something we hear more often than you might think. But the reality is, there are many ways to incorporate modern touches and contemporary functionality while still respecting the character and style of a traditional home.
In this project we wanted to bring in the classic arch that is seen in many older homes and make it a focal point. Bringing the arch almost to the ceiling, making the two rooms feel larger/ together but separate.
To modernize the kitchen, we have a full height backsplash. This helps not only with cleanliness, but also creates another accent spot within the kitchen.
The cabinets are a more modern look, but still bringing the warm wood tones out in the beams and island, giving the home its classic welcoming vibe.
Opening the space can make the rooms feel more modern, but the surrounding elements like the classic staircase, paneled bay window bench and sleek traditional arch make the kitchen feel as though it belongs.
