Holiday Tips With Designer Carolyn Elleman

It’s hard to believe, but the holiday season is upon us! During this time of year, we all seem to spend a lot more time in the kitchen – whether that’s baking our favorite cookies, gathering around the island, or cooking for family – the kitchen is the place to be! We asked Designer Carolyn Elleman about her favorite kitchen design, top entertaining tip, and her favorite kitchen accessory that could double as a great holiday gift. Let’s see what she had to say…

Q: Carolyn, you get to design gorgeous kitchens everyday. Do you have a favorite?

A: There are many things that go into a “favorite kitchen” some people go with the size, some the aesthetic, and others like myself, go for the work triangle.

This kitchen is probably one of the smallest kitchens that I’ve done has a designer, but it has become my favorite. With the use of the space, and the efficient “work triangle” between fridge, sink and range. The aesthetic plays a big part as well, being that the gold finishes stand out on the bright white cabinets and countertop.

Q: What’s your favorite kitchen accessory that could double as a great holiday gift?

A: Over the holidays we are often surrounded by great company and amazing smells. A kitchen accessory that I seem to use a lot is a cutting board. It’s probably one of the simplest and under rated items in the kitchen. The cutting board is not only a place to cut your Christmas cookies on, it’s also a great item to serve those wonderful cookies! The cutting board also doubles as a PERFECT holiday gift to anyone who cooks or doesn’t cook. People can always use a good serving place.

Q: What’s your top entertaining tip?

A: A lot of kitchens we design today have long continuous countertop space. With that being said, it creates the best place to entertain/ serve your guests. During the holidays, I would also recommend simple recipes.  Not everyone, including myself, is a good cook. Making items that require no baking or turning on the stove top is the best way to keep you and your guests happy.
